Between 2018 and 2020, the market for pressing, stamping, and punching tools in Romania expanded from 1 348 t to 3 643 t in volume and from 29.2 million USD to 46.2 million USD in value. This growth was entirely import-driven, as imports rose from 1 441 t to 3 773 t, while domestic production more than halved from 558 t to 226 t. In 2018, Proinvest Group acquired the SCUDAS factory, integrating the SCUDAS® brand and expanding its capacity for special tools, devices, and accessories for machine tools and steel processing, signaling continued investment in the sector despite the declining output.

After 2020, import volumes continued to climb, peaking at 6 391 t in 2023 before dropping to 3 023 t in 2024. Exports, meanwhile, surged to 1 500 t in 2024 from just 188 t the previous year. This shift in trade coincided with Romania's strengthening role as a European industrial and logistics hub, supported by major investments like Falcon Defence's launch of an integrated production platform for energetic materials and artillery ammunition, which likely bolstered domestic demand for precision metal-forming tools.

However, between 2017 and 2020, exports fell by 69.5%, with an annualized decline of 32.7%. The lowest point was in 2019 at 284 tonnes, which saw the largest drop of 56.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, Spain, Germany, and Russia were the main buyers of Romania's tools for pressing, stamping, or punching in volume terms. Spain accounted for 24.4% of exports, Germany for 23.8%, and Russia for 18.3%. Together, these three countries made up 66.5% of total export volumes.

The peak was in 2018 at 9,688 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 12.4%. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 47.1%.
