The market for fresh tomatoes in North Macedonia showed considerable volatility in volume between 2018 and 2023. Starting at 146.2 thousand tons in 2018, it dipped to 139.6 thousand tons the following year before rebounding to a peak of 149.4 thousand tons in 2020.

After 2020, the market volume entered a downward trend, falling to 147.6 thousand tons in 2021 and 143.5 thousand tons in 2022. The most pronounced contraction occurred in 2023, when volume plummeted to 109.8 thousand tons, representing a drop of over 30 thousand tons from the previous year.

In value terms, the market told a different story, rising consistently from $86.2 million in 2018 to $120.4 million in 2022, indicating higher average prices even as physical volume declined. However, this trend reversed in 2023, with the market value falling sharply to $90.4 million, aligning with the steep drop in volume.

The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 92.9 million US dollars, and the largest decrease occurred in 2018, when it fell by 11.7%.
