The market for fresh tomatoes in Kuwait experienced considerable shifts from 2018 to 2023. Volume reached a high of 204.4 thousand tons in 2019, followed by a sharp decline to 129.8 thousand tons in 2020. After stabilizing near 131.3 thousand tons in 2021, the market contracted again to 77.8 thousand tons in 2022 before recovering to 128.2 thousand tons in 2023.

Domestic production mirrored this volatility, peaking at 132.2 thousand tons in 2019 before falling to around 60 thousand tons in subsequent years. Imports, a key supply source, also varied significantly and dropped to 18.7 thousand tons in 2022, amplifying that year's market reduction.

In 2024, the government set a directive to increase local tomato output to 350 tons per day, aiming to strengthen market stability and curb reliance on imports.
