Earlier Report Observations

The market for iron or steel threaded nuts in Germany showed considerable volatility between 2018 and 2024. Starting at a size of $492 million in 2018, it contracted sharply over the next two years, falling to $283 million by 2020—a decline of over 40%. This downward trend reversed in 2021, with the market expanding to $382 million and further to $469 million in 2022, recovering most of the earlier losses.

This recovery was driven by a rebound in domestic production, which increased from $573 million in 2020 to $686 million in 2021, and by rising imports, which grew from $532 million to $688 million over the same period. However, strong export volumes, consistently exceeding $900 million annually, meant the domestic market size remained smaller than the total production and trade flows would suggest.

By 2024, the market had contracted again to $330 million, below its 2018 level. The period was characterized by significant swings, with the market experiencing a deep trough in 2020, a strong two-year recovery, and then another notable downturn.
