Earlier Report Observations

Soybean production in the Democratic Republic of the Congo began a steady increase from 2018, when output stood at 24 427 t. This initial growth was supported by the launch of a strategic initiative for organic soybean production, led by the Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with small farmer organizations, aiming to develop the value chain and integrate smallholders.

Production continued to expand, surpassing 25 000 t by 2019 and reaching 26 336 t by 2021. A significant development occurred in 2021 with the entry of new private player Logix Africa, which announced plans to produce 15 000 t of soybeans annually as part of a project to modernize agriculture. Further momentum came in 2023 from the government's policy to diversify exports by developing agricultural sectors like soybeans, contributing to production reaching 27 695 t by the end of that year.
