Imports of smoked fish into Bosnia and Herzegovina rose steadily from 15 524 kg in 2018 to 26 859 kg in 2024, underpinning the expansion of domestic market volume from 21 535 kg in 2021 to 32 461 kg in 2024. Exports, after a temporary surge to 9 579 kg in 2021, dropped sharply to 319 kg by 2024, indicating a reorientation toward local consumption. The market value grew from 466.6 thousand USD in 2021 to 701.9 thousand USD in 2024, influenced by regional price hikes and general inflationary pressures in the food sector.

The period also saw broader challenges such as climate change threatening fish stocks and the spread of invasive species in the Adriatic Sea, which posed long-term risks to the raw material base for smoked fish production.
