Earlier Report Observations

The shelled almond market in the MENA region experienced sustained growth, with its volume increasing from 210.5 thousand tons in 2018 to 314.1 thousand tons by 2023. This expansion was primarily fueled by a sharp rise in imports, which more than doubled over the period, while domestic production also trended upward despite some annual fluctuations.

Import volumes climbed steadily, with notable surges in 2019 and 2021. Export activity varied significantly, particularly spiking in 2021 and again in 2023, reflecting volatile international trade flows for the region's almonds.

In 2024, Morocco's domestic almond harvest approached 101 thousand tons, supporting the local supply of shelled equivalents. During the same year, Morocco's imports of U.S. shelled almonds rose by over 35 thousand tons in a ten-month period. Regional demand continued to be shaped by seasonal patterns, including increased consumption during the Ramadan period.
