Between 2018 and 2021, Hungary's market for saturated acyclic monocarboxylic acids and derivatives was heavily reliant on imports from regional suppliers, including Serbia, Belgium, Poland, Germany, and Spain. This import flow supported a market volume of 18 961 t in 2019, but import volumes began to fluctuate thereafter.

By 2023, the market volume had contracted to 13 868 t, coinciding with a broader decline in imports. In 2022, direct supplies from Russia were recorded at very low levels, which may have contributed to tightened availability. Despite the volume drop, the market value remained relatively stable at around $27 million, indicating higher unit prices or a shift toward more valuable derivatives.

A partial recovery occurred in 2024, with market volume rising to 16 526 t and value reaching $28.5 million. Production volumes continued to trend downward in physical terms, falling from 6 799 t in 2019 to 5 955 t in 2024, yet production value increased over the same period, suggesting a focus on higher-margin products.
