After reaching a peak in 2022, the market volume contracted in the following two years, falling to 9,591 units in 2024 as production levels decreased. During this period, Germany maintained its position as a major importer of these converters, with imports valued at $12.4 million in 2021, helping to supply the growing market. In a significant industry development, GE Vernova opened a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) competence center in Berlin in late 2024, marking a substantial investment in advanced converter technology related to the sector.

In value terms, the market demonstrated considerable growth, increasing from $26.1 million in 2019 to $87.4 million in 2023, pointing to a trend towards higher-value products or changing price structures alongside the fluctuations in physical volume.

Germany's exports of rotary converters declined for the third year in a row. In 2020, exports totaled 2,002 units, marking a sharp 50.6% drop from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports fell by 70.9%, with an average annual decline of 33.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, Germany's export destinations for rotary converters were quite diverse. Denmark accounted for 20.9% of exports in kind, the United States for 16.8%, and the Netherlands for 4.9%. Together, these three countries made up just 42.6% of total exports, while the remaining 57.4% went to a wide range of other nations.

From 2017 to 2020, the United States was Germany's largest buyer of rotary converters by value, accounting for 24.4% of exports. China followed with 6.8%, and Hong Kong with 5.6%. Germany's imports of rotary converters fell for the third consecutive year. In 2020, imports stood at 2,139 units, down 47.4% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, import volume decreased by 72.5%, with an average annual decline of 35.0%.

Between 2017 and 2020, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France were consistently Germany's main sources for rotary converters in kind. The United States accounted for 28.8% of imports, the United Kingdom for 21.2%, and France for 15.4%. Together, these three countries made up 65.4% of total import volume.
