Significant regulatory trends emerged, particularly a sustained push toward digital accounting practices. Spain's long-standing requirement for the telematics legalization of accounting books, provisions in the Commercial Code allowing digital record-keeping, and the 2023 approval of the Veri*factu regulation mandating future real-time invoicing submissions to the tax authority all highlighted this digital shift. These developments formed a key backdrop as the physical product market expanded in value by 2024.

Between 2017 and 2020, exports decreased by 25.5%, averaging a 9.3% annual decline. The highest volume was recorded in 2018 at 17 370 tonnes, with the largest increase that year at 47.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, the Netherlands, France, and Portugal consistently led as the top destinations for Spain's exports of registers, account books, diaries, and albums in volume terms. The Netherlands accounted for 26.3% of exports, France for 18.6%, and Portugal for 18.4%, together making up 63.3% of total export flows.
