Earlier Report Observations

The Italian market for refined groundnut oil and fractions experienced significant fluctuations in volume between 2018 and 2024. Market size in physical terms reached a peak of nearly 39.6 тыс. т in 2020, then declined to 28.8 тыс. т in 2022 before recovering to 38.6 тыс. т in 2023. In 2024, however, it fell again to 26.0 тыс. т. In value terms, the market peaked at $100.6 million in 2021, followed by a gradual decrease to $67.7 million by 2024.

The production rebound in 2023 was facilitated by increased availability of domestic raw materials, as Italian-grown peanuts promoted by industry groups expanded supply for oil processing. Simultaneously, the postponement of the European Union's deforestation regulation alleviated near-term price pressures on vegetable oils, including groundnut oil, contributing to a lower market value despite higher volume. In 2024, while the refined oil segment maintained a dominant 78% market share and continued to benefit from regulatory clarity for food safety, the overall market volume contracted.
