Earlier Report Observations
Between 2018 and 2023, Benin's pork market volume expanded from 6 077 t to 11 632 t, with domestic production rising from 6 048 t to 11 630 t. In March 2022, a decree mandating the labeling of pork origin in restaurants came into force, enhancing transparency for consumers. Market volume continued to climb thereafter, reaching 11 632 t in 2023, while imports remained minimal at 2 t. In 2024, the government announced a ban on imports of frozen chicken and table eggs effective from December 31, 2024.
