The Dutch market for PMMA in primary forms saw its volume increase from 14 132 tonnes in 2019 to 14 882 tonnes in 2020. During this period, domestic production declined from 14 587 tonnes to 12 863 tonnes, but this was offset by a fall in exports and a rise in imports, leading to net growth in available material.

By 2023, market volume had contracted sharply to 6 557 tonnes, representing a decline of more than 50% compared to 2020. This was accompanied by a drop in production to 8 002 tonnes and a significant increase in exports. In 2024, the market recovered partially to 7 765 tonnes as production rose to 9 190 tonnes and exports moderated.

In the Netherlands, the production value of PMMA in primary forms reached 41 052 thousand US dollars in 2021, representing a significant 27.2% increase compared to the previous year. Looking at the broader period from 2019 to 2021, production grew by 2.2%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 0.7%. The lowest production value was recorded in 2020 at 32 275 thousand US dollars, marking the largest decline of 19.7% during this timeframe.

The Netherlands experienced a third consecutive year of declining export volumes for PMMA in primary forms. In 2021, exports dropped to 503 tonnes, a sharp reduction of 57.7% compared to 2020. Over the period from 2018 to 2021, exports fell by 96.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of -68.6%.

From 2018 to 2021, Germany, Italy, and France were the primary destinations for the Netherlands' exports of PMMA in primary forms by volume. Germany accounted for 30.4% of exports, Italy for 25.1%, and France for 11.1%. Together, these three countries represented 66.6% of total export volumes.
