Earlier Report Observations

The market for fresh plums and sloes in Cyprus grew from 1 694 metric tons in 2018 to a peak of 2 266 metric tons in 2022. This expansion was supported by state agricultural support programs and the entry of new local players, which strengthened domestic production and distribution. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 temporarily disrupted imports but also boosted demand for local products, leading to a sharp rise in domestic output.

After the 2022 peak, the market volume declined to 2 035 metric tons in 2023, coinciding with the implementation of new European labeling and packaging requirements that may have temporarily affected supply chains. In 2024, factors such as the International Year of Vine and Wine's focus on local agricultural products, alongside ongoing economic challenges like inflation, are shaping the market environment.
