In 2018-2019, production of plastic doors and windows in Russia grew due to the active development of major producers, entry of new players, and launch of modern manufacturing facilities. The introduction of energy efficiency standards and tighter labeling requirements also supported industry modernization. However, increased exports led to a contraction of the domestic market to 16.9 million units in 2020, and the COVID-19 pandemic caused temporary disruptions in component supplies.

From 2021, tightening sanctions on imports stimulated import substitution and expansion of local production. Companies launched new lines and broadened their product ranges, including innovative items. In 2022, reduced export opportunities due to sanctions caused a sharp rise in the domestic market to 26.9 million units, despite economic instability and higher costs for raw materials and logistics.

After peaking in 2022, production and market size began to decline, and by 2025 production reached 21.5 million units, close to the 2018 level.

In 2021, Russia produced 32 648 thousand square meters of plastic doors, windows, and frames, marking a 19.5% increase compared to the previous year. From 2018 to 2021, production grew by 22%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 6.9%. The most significant decline occurred in 2020, with a drop of 0.8%.

After two years of growth, Russia's export volume of plastic doors, windows, and frames declined. In 2021, exports amounted to 6 510 thousand units, representing a gradual decrease of 9.5% compared to 2020. Between 2018 and 2021, exports increased by 27.7%, equating to an annualized rate of 8.5%. The highest export volume was recorded in 2020 at 7 189 thousand units, while the largest increase occurred in 2019 with a rise of 24.4%.

From 2018 to 2021, the primary buyers of Russian plastic doors, windows, and frames in terms of volume were Kazakhstan, accounting for 40.7% of exports, Belarus with 36.5%, and Mongolia at 8.4%. Together, these three countries represented 85.7% of total exports in kind.

Russia's exports of plastic doors, windows, and frames in value terms increased for the third consecutive year. In 2021, exports reached 17 402 thousand US dollars, up by 28.0% compared to the previous year. Between 2018 and 2021, exports grew by 99.2%, which corresponds to an annualized growth rate of 25.8%.

Throughout 2018–2021, the core markets for Russian exports in value terms were Kazakhstan, representing 39.1% of exports, Belarus with 31.7%, and Israel at 10.6%. Collectively, these three countries accounted for 81.4% of total export flows.

Imports in kind, K unit

The data shows irregular changes, indicating a volatile market environment. Import volumes bottomed out in 2020 and peaked in 2021, with a top-to-bottom ratio of 2.3 times. In 2021, Russia's imports of plastic doors, windows, and frames totaled 2 501 thousand units, corresponding to a sharp increase of 134.5% compared to 2020. The minimum import volume was recorded in 2020 at 1 067 thousand units, while the largest decline occurred in 2020 with a drop of 10.0%.

From 2018 to 2021, the core sources for imports in kind were Belarus, accounting for 60.3% of imports, Poland with 15.9%, and Germany at 4.1%. Together, these three countries represented 80.3% of total import flows.

Russia's imports of plastic doors, windows, and frames in value terms increased for the second consecutive year. In 2021, imports reached 7 787 thousand US dollars, marking a steep rise of 54.4% compared to 2020. Between 2018 and 2021, imports grew by 44.2%, equating to an annualized growth rate of 13.0%. The minimum import value was recorded in 2019 at 4 832 thousand US dollars, while the largest decline occurred in 2019 with a decrease of 10.5%.

Throughout 2018–2021, the three largest markets for imports in value terms were Belarus, Poland, and Germany, which together accounted for 72.1% of total import flows.
