In 2018, the market for edible pig offal in Cameroon reached 5,420 t, while the broader pig sector faced an estimated meat production deficit of 42,000 t. The market volume then contracted sharply to 4,288 t by 2020, driven primarily by an outbreak of African swine fever. The epizootic led to the culling of 90,000 pigs over three months, representing about 22.5% of the national herd, which severely constrained local supply and increased prices for meat and offal.

A recovery began after 2020, with market volume rising to 4,757 t in 2021 despite African swine fever becoming endemic. This growth was supported by a project announced in 2022 to construct a modern industrial pig slaughterhouse in Yaoundé, with a capacity of 200 head per day, aimed at modernizing the value chain. Concurrently, evolving consumer preferences toward better-controlled and higher-quality products encouraged such infrastructure modernization.

By 2023, the market volume expanded further to 5,037 t, surpassing the 2018 level. Although African swine fever remained a limiting factor for production, regional variations in pig farming distribution continued to influence product availability across different geographic areas of the country.

Cameroon's pig offal production declined for the second year in a row. In 2019, production stood at 4,270 tonnes, but by 2020 it had dropped by 2.4% to 4,270 tonnes. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 18.7%, with an average annual decline of 6.7%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 5,406 tonnes, which represented a 2.9% increase from the previous year. However, the sharpest decline occurred in 2019, when production plummeted by 19.1%.

The market showed significant fluctuations during this period. Imports reached their lowest point in 2017 and peaked in 2019, with a fourfold difference between these years. In 2019, imports hit a high of 23,422 kg, but by 2020 they had fallen to 17,274 kg, marking a sharp decrease of 26.2% from the previous year. The largest increase was recorded in 2018, when imports surged by 148.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, Cameroon's pig offal imports came from a very limited number of partners. France alone accounted for 91.6% of all imports by volume.

The market experienced considerable volatility during these years. Imports in value terms were at their lowest in 2017 and reached a peak in 2019, with a threefold difference between these two years. In 2019, imports were valued at $113.7 thousand, but by 2020 this had dropped to $94.4 thousand, a decrease of 17.0% from the previous year. The most significant increase occurred in 2018, when import value rose by 89.9%.
