This expansion was supported by leading companies like Agropalma implementing sustainable practices and rising domestic demand from the food and biofuel industries. The sector showed resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, maintaining output growth.

After 2020, growth moderated, with a slight increase to 2.89 million t in 2021 as the sector faced challenges like rural labor shortages and low fertilizer application. However, biofuel promotion policies, such as the Plano Nacional do Combustível do Futuro, sustained demand. Production rose to 2.95 million t in 2022 following new regulations in Pará state that organized the supply chain and emphasized origin control. Output then dipped to 2.90 million t in 2023 due to structural issues, including difficulties in expanding cultivated areas.
