Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2019, the orange market in the Americas expanded, with volume rising from 29 259 thousand tonnes to 31 105 thousand tonnes. This growth coincided with the U.S. industry facing production challenges from Huanglongbing disease, which increased reliance on imports from partners like Mexico and Chile under trade agreements. Brazil's position as the leading global producer and growing domestic consumption of fresh oranges for juice, particularly fresh-squeezed, supported overall demand.

After the 2019 peak, market volume gradually declined through 2021. By 2023, a notable shift occurred as U.S. orange juice production increased by nearly 30%, driven by greater fruit availability for processing. This period also saw rising consumer preference for organic oranges and juice, while the supply chain faced constraints from greening disease, which affected yields across the Americas and contributed to domestic production shortfalls.

In 2024, North America held over 40% of global orange market revenue. Continued production challenges in the U.S. were met with rising imports, valued at $486 million, to satisfy demand. Marketing campaigns promoting the health benefits of orange juice, the introduction of new orange varieties, and planned regulatory updates to juice standards aimed to support domestic growers amidst strong consumer demand for fresh and organic products.
