This steady supply was underpinned by a solid raw material base, established through extensive eucalyptus plantations exceeding 50,000 hectares, which allocated a quarter of its output to sawnwood and laminated products. The sector's resilience was further reinforced by significant private investments in forestry, which by 2022 supported an industry of around 600 primary and secondary wood processing plants.

The period from 2024 onward marked a phase of strategic expansion for the Paraguayan wood industry. Regulatory changes promoting fast-growing exotic plantations, particularly eucalyptus, enhanced international competitiveness. This was accompanied by a major scaling of forested area to 250,000 hectares and over US$ 200 million in investments directed at sawmills, biomass plants, and high-tech nurseries. These developments facilitated a structural shift in exports, with sawnwood shipments surging by 76% in August 2025, driven largely by eucalyptus and bolstered by growing demand from Asian markets like China and Taiwan.
