Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, natural latex production in Laos increased from 131.9 thousand tons to 201.6 thousand tons. This growth was primarily driven by foreign investment entering the rubber industry and the ongoing expansion of new rubber plantations, supported by government oversight aimed at ensuring product quality and sustainability. During these years, a rising share of the output was exported, which reached 90.4 thousand tons in 2020, leading to a slight contraction in the domestic market size from 120.3 thousand tons to 111.2 thousand tons.

Starting in 2021, production accelerated further, reaching 317.4 thousand tons by 2023, as foreign investment and plantation development continued. Concurrently, export volumes fell sharply from a peak of 97.4 thousand tons in 2021 to 36.2 thousand tons in 2023. With less latex shipped abroad, domestic availability surged, causing the market size to expand rapidly from 128.7 thousand tons in 2021 to 281.3 thousand tons in 2023.
