The market volume for mushrooms and truffles in the Philippines expanded from 1 631 t in 2018 to 2 759 t in 2022, supported by the commercial launch of the milky mushroom, which provided farmers with a profitable, multi-harvest crop. Standardized trade classification introduced in 2019 facilitated market regulation, while growing consumer interest in healthy foods from 2020 onward boosted both local production and imports.

After a modest decline to 2 630 t in 2023, the market entered a phase of regulatory refinement and shifting consumer patterns in 2024. The Department of Agriculture began implementing national quality standards for oyster mushrooms to ensure safety and uniformity, and authorities intensified enforcement against illegal psychoactive mushrooms. At the same time, rising preference for plant-based and functional foods elevated mushrooms as a key ingredient, coinciding with a surge in imports to 6 536 t.

The Philippines has seen its production of mushrooms and truffles grow for the third year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 721.2 tonnes, marking a moderate increase of 7.5% compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production rose by 14%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 4.5%.
