Earlier Report Observations

After reaching 189.8 million US dollars in 2018, supported by strong plastic processing activity and domestic production of raw materials like LDPE, HDPE, and PP granules, the market for moulds for rubber or plastics in Hungary contracted to 156.7 million US dollars in 2019. This decline coincided with stagnation in PVC production and mixed performance among different types of commercial raw materials.

The market recovered to 174.4 million US dollars in 2020 and continued to grow in 2021, peaking at 195.5 million US dollars. The primary driver in 2021 was increased demand for tires in the corporate segment due to the boom in delivery services, which raised the need for moulds used in tire manufacturing.

In 2022, however, the market size fell sharply to 159.9 million US dollars. This drop occurred alongside substantial price increases for tires and tire services, as all tire manufacturers raised prices, and consumers began using tires about 20% longer, postponing replacements. Additionally, raw material shortages in construction and stricter environmental regulations for packaging materials indirectly pressured the plastics and rubber industries. Factors reported for 2023 indicated a continued decline in tire demand across all segments, suggesting persistent challenges for the moulds market.
