The Czech molybdenum market is heavily influenced by global factors and relies on imports due to minimal domestic production. From 2018 to 2020, the market was affected by U.S.-China trade negotiations and the COVID-19 pandemic, which impacted supply chains and prices. Local molybdenum reserves exist but extraction is limited and mostly incidental to other mining, with primary demand coming from the metallurgy sector for special steels.

Market volume peaked at 174.4 t in 2021, driven by optimistic expectations from trade agreements that boosted imports. The outbreak of war in Ukraine in 2022 severely disrupted supply chains and increased macroeconomic uncertainty, causing the market to contract to 52.6 t. This decline continued to 41.1 t in 2023 before a partial recovery to 56.3 t in 2024.

Import and export flows fluctuated throughout the period, mirroring global trade conditions. Czech molybdenum production remained negligible and ceased entirely after 2022.
