Earlier Report Observations

The melon market volume in Sri Lanka exhibited marked fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. Starting at 19 888 tons in 2018, it contracted the following year before entering a period of volatility with significant year-on-year movements.

A sharp decline of over 10% brought the market down to 17 812 tons in 2019. This was followed by a robust recovery in 2020, when volume jumped by 33% to reach 23 690 tons, representing the most substantial single-year increase in the period.

After a modest dip in 2021, the market expanded again to peak at 25 231 tons in 2022. Volume then eased slightly in 2023, settling at 24 300 tons, which remained well above the 2018 level despite the recent decrease.
