Earlier Report Observations

The melon market in Slovenia underwent a pronounced contraction from 2018 to 2023. Total market volume fell from 5 495 tons in 2018 to a low of 2 129 tons in 2022, representing a decline of more than half, before a partial recovery to 2 357 tons in 2023.

This sharp reduction was led by a dramatic drop in imports, which supply the bulk of the market. Import volumes peaked at 5 310 tons in 2019 but collapsed to 2 050 tons by 2022. Domestic production followed a similar downward path, receding from 400 tons in 2018 to 250 tons in 2021 and 2022, while minor export flows also diminished.

After the steep declines, the market showed signs of stabilization at a lower base. Domestic production increased to 300 tons in 2023, and import volumes recorded a slight uptick in 2023 and 2024 compared to the 2022 trough.
