This growth was supported by increases in both domestic production and imports.

After 2020, import volumes continued to climb, reaching 142 thousand tonnes in 2024, while exports fell sharply from a peak of 33 thousand tonnes in 2019 to just 7.5 thousand tonnes in 2024. This reorientation toward the domestic market aligned with amendments to public procurement rules that could facilitate supplier access and the entry of new players that heightened competition. Additionally, new hazardous waste management regulations implemented in 2023 prompted adjustments in the handling of construction materials.

In 2020, Bulgaria exported 29 394 tonnes of mastics, fillers, and surfacing preparations, which was 11.0% lower than the previous year. The highest volume was recorded in 2019 at 33 025 tonnes, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 at 311.9%.
