The margarine market volume in Greece declined from 55 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 41 thousand tonnes in 2020, accompanied by a drop in domestic production from 50 thousand tonnes to 28 thousand tonnes over the same period. Imports fluctuated, peaking at 21 thousand tonnes in 2019 before falling, while exports dropped to 3 thousand tonnes in 2020.

After 2020, imports continued to decrease, reaching 7.6 thousand tonnes in 2024, whereas exports recovered to 7.1 thousand tonnes. This trend coincided with the modernization of margarine production in Greece, which eliminated partial hydrogenation, removed trans fats, and improved product perception. Widespread availability through supermarket chains and online stores also facilitated consumer access to margarine.

After a two-year increase, Greece's margarine imports declined. In 2020, Greece imported 16 656 tonnes of margarine, indicating a strong fall of 21.3% year-on-year.
