The Belgian maize starch market experienced fluctuating volumes between 2018 and 2023. After reaching 549.6 thousand tons in 2018, market size gradually declined to 499.2 thousand tons by 2021. A temporary recovery lifted volume to 520.4 thousand tons in 2022, before it fell back to 497.2 thousand tons in the following year.

Domestic production remained relatively steady, ranging from 470.9 thousand tons in 2018 to 486.6 thousand tons in 2023, with a peak of 507.3 thousand tons in 2022. Imports, which had been 82.3 thousand tons in 2018, dropped sharply to 19.3 thousand tons in 2019 and stayed below 24 thousand tons thereafter, while exports slowly expanded from 3.6 to 12.9 thousand tons over the period.
