Austria's magnesite market volume fluctuated between 687 000 and 843 000 tons from 2018 to 2022. The country's status as the world's seventh-largest producer, with annual output around 800 000 tons, highlighted the mineral's domestic importance. After a drop to 697 000 tons in 2019, volume recovered to 818 000 tons in 2020, supported by a national emphasis on sustainable resource management and efficient raw material use.

Production expanded further to 843 000 tons in 2021, coinciding with increased state oversight and statistical tracking of federal mineral production. In 2022, volume fell to 688 000 tons, a year without reported major plant expansions or new market entrants. For 2024, magnesite was named Austria's Mineral of the Year, raising public awareness of its economic role.
