Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2020, the linseed oil market volume in Central America declined from 3 931 tons to 2 901 tons, largely due to reduced imports. However, domestic production began to rise after 2019, reaching 1 044 tons in 2020. This increase was driven by growing health awareness among consumers, which boosted demand for organic linseed oil considered free from pesticides and GMOs. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains, further affecting import flows.

From 2021 to 2023, production expanded significantly, peaking at 1 583 tons in 2021 following the launch of Archer Daniels Midland Company's Onavita, a refined non-GMO linseed oil that added to regional supply. Market volume stabilized around 2 900 tons in 2021, then dipped to 2 486 tons in 2022 before recovering to 2 674 tons in 2023. The recovery in 2023 was supported by rising demand for linseed oil in food, dietary supplements, and cosmetic applications, as consumer preference for natural and organic products remained strong.
