Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2025, the Lithuanian market for knitted or crocheted fabrics experienced notable shifts. In physical terms, market volume peaked at 6.4 thousand tons in 2020, a significant increase from 4.4 thousand tons in 2018, before receding to 5.3 thousand tons by 2024. In value terms, the market demonstrated stronger growth, expanding from 41.8 million USD in 2018 to 61.3 million USD in 2023, followed by a slight contraction to 59.4 million USD in 2024.

Domestic production more than doubled from 464 tons in 2018 to 804 tons in 2024. This expansion was supported by the continuous operation of major state-owned and private manufacturers like Utenos trikotažas, SIŪLAS, and KLASIKINĖ TEKSTILĖ, which produced a wide range of knitted fabrics, linens, and cotton goods. Throughout the period, consumer preferences remained oriented toward natural materials, quality, and functionality, sustaining underlying demand for such products.

Imports, which constitute the largest supply source for the market, reached their highest volume in 2020 at 8.0 thousand tons but declined in subsequent years. Exports also trended downward after 2021. The absence of major regulatory shocks or significant plant openings or closures during these years contributed to a stable production environment, even as the total market volume in tons gradually decreased from its 2020 peak.
