The market for iron or steel stranded wire and ropes in Greece experienced significant growth in both volume and value between 2018 and 2024. In physical terms, market volume rose from 4 674 t to 8 741 t, an increase of 87%. This expansion was not linear, with a noticeable contraction in 2021 followed by a strong recovery in subsequent years.

The growth in domestic market volume was primarily driven by a substantial rise in imports, which more than doubled from 5 923 t to 9 996 t over the period. At the same time, export volumes declined by roughly 30%, making more product available locally. Domestic production, however, contracted by nearly 40%, indicating a shift towards greater reliance on imported goods.
