The Hungarian market for insecticides and disease control agents expanded sharply in volume terms between 2018 and 2020, with market size more than doubling from 4 712 t to 11 153 t. This growth was primarily fueled by a substantial increase in imports, which rose from 6 949 t to 15 189 t over the same period, while domestic production remained relatively flat around 300–360 t.

Despite the volume surge, the market value displayed a different trajectory: it grew from 45.3 million $ US in 2018 to 51.1 million $ US in 2019, then fell to 41.6 million $ US in 2020. This suggests a shift towards lower-priced products or overall price reductions within the market.

Exports also grew during this time, from 2 561 t to 4 382 t, indicating that Hungary maintained an active trade role, but the net import dependency for domestic consumption increased significantly.

The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 10 723 thousand US dollars, with the largest decline occurring that same year at 19.2%.

In 2020, Hungary produced 346.3 tonnes of insecticides and disease control agents, representing a 4.0% decrease year-on-year. Over the three-year span from 2018 to 2020, production increased by 7.2%, averaging a 2.4% annual growth rate. The peak production volume was achieved in 2019 at 360.8 tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 11.7% during that period.

Following two years of growth, Hungary's exports of insecticides and disease control agents experienced a decline. In 2021, exports totaled 4 115 tonnes, reflecting a moderate 6.1% reduction compared to the previous year. From 2018 to 2021, exports surged by 60.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 17.1%. The highest export volume was recorded in 2020 at 4 382 tonnes, which also marked the largest increase of 42.2%.

Between 2018 and 2021, Hungary exported insecticides and disease control agents to a diverse range of markets. Even the top three destinations—Poland, Russia, and Ukraine—collectively accounted for only 42.5% of total exports in volume terms.

In 2021, exports amounted to 103.6 million US dollars, showing a slight 2.0% increase over the previous year. From 2018 to 2021, export value rose by 42.4%, equivalent to an average annual growth rate of 12.5%.

During the 2018–2021 period, Hungary's export value of insecticides and disease control agents was distributed across a wide partner portfolio. The top three markets—Russia (11.2% of export value), France (9.2%), and Poland (8.2%)—together represented just 28.5% of total export flows.

The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 131.6 million US dollars, which also experienced the largest increase of 25.5%.
