Volume dropped to 87 339 t in 2020 and further to 84 851 t in 2021. In value terms, the market followed a similar initial pattern, reaching $388.6 million in 2019 then falling to $342.9 million in 2020.

Market volume continued to contract, falling to 82 954 t in 2022 and 78 518 t in 2023, despite €42.89 million of investment in the production of homogenised and dietary foods recorded in 2022. The implementation of new origin labeling rules for meat ingredients from February 1, 2024, introduced additional compliance requirements for relevant products, coinciding with a further volume decrease to 73 609 t and a market value of $350.4 million in 2024.
