The Italian groundnut oil-cake market grew from 4 698 t in 2018 to 5 500 t in 2019. In 2020, volume fell to 5 124 t as high production costs for domestic groundnuts, stemming from a lack of mechanization and competition from larger foreign seeds, constrained the supply of raw materials for oil extraction and its solid residues. That same year saw the revival of groundnut cultivation in Italy after nearly 50 years, driven by initiatives from Coldiretti, Noberasco, and SIS Società Italiana Sementi, focusing on distinct taste and quality.

Production recovered to 5 900 t in 2021 and increased further to 6 100 t in 2022. The 2022 growth was propelled by rising consumer demand for cold-pressed peanut oil, valued for its health and sustainability benefits, which boosted oil production and consequently the output of oil-cake. Simultaneously, major player Olitalia began commercializing peanut oil in 100% recycled and recyclable PET packaging, aligning with broader sustainability trends that stimulated market activity. The market volume then declined to 4 995 t in 2023.
