The groundnut oil market in the Philippines began the period with a slight decline, from 10 545 т in 2018 to 10 133 т in 2019. During this time, the market saw the entry of new players, including subsidiaries of multinational companies like Total and local firms such as Flying V, which increased competition. However, the market faced a sharp contraction in 2020, with volume dropping to 8 278 т, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted global supply chains and increased freight costs.

A recovery followed in 2021, with market volume rising to 9 713 т as supply chains stabilized and reliability of supply improved. The most significant growth occurred in 2022, when volume surged to 12 755 т. This was driven by El Niño, which reduced coconut oil yields and shifted demand toward alternative vegetable oils like groundnut oil, coupled with rising global prices for vegetable oils.

In 2023, the market adjusted slightly, declining to 11 712 т. Despite this, coconut oil exports remained strong, exceeding $2 billion, indicating continued high demand for vegetable oils in the Philippines, with groundnut oil maintaining a significant market presence.
