The Lebanese fresh artichoke market volume reached 1 215 metric tons in 2018. It expanded to 1 512 metric tons in 2019, a period marked by the launch of the National Agriculture Strategy 2020-2025, which implemented measures to improve agricultural production and marketing for vegetables including artichokes.

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted agricultural supply chains, leading to a contraction in the market to 1 427 metric tons. From 2021, a severe and prolonged economic crisis in Lebanon altered consumer behavior, reduced overall demand, and increased production and distribution costs, driving the market size down to 990 metric tons in 2021 and 928 metric tons in 2022.

The market continued to decline to 871 metric tons in 2023 amidst persistent economic and financial difficulties. Concurrently, regulatory updates to pricing policies and the public procurement system by the Ministry of Economy and Trade and the Ministry of Finance formed the ongoing policy context for the agricultural sector.

Lebanon's globe artichoke production volume increased after a two-year decline. In 2020, the country produced 901 tonnes, marking a sharp rise of 39.8% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production decreased by 13.8%, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.8%. The lowest production was recorded in 2019 at 644 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 36.4%.

Lebanon's globe artichoke production value increased following a two-year decrease. In 2020, output was valued at 993 000 US dollars, up 11.4% from 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production value fell by 51.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of 21.2%. The minimum value occurred in 2019 at 891 000 US dollars, which also experienced the largest decline of 49.9%.

Globe artichoke exports from Lebanon rose for the third year in a row. In 2020, exports totaled 31 000 US dollars, showing a dramatic increase of 117.4% compared to the prior year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports grew by 146.2%, equating to an annualized rate of 35.0%.
