Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the market volume for fresh globe artichokes in Eastern Asia grew from 82 084 metric tons to 84 679 metric tons. This increase was supported by improved agricultural production technologies, including the wider use of greenhouse cultivation and advanced variety breeding, which enhanced yields and enabled more stable year-round supply.

After reaching a peak in 2020, the market volume slightly declined to 83 370 metric tons in 2021 and then stabilized around 83 800–84 000 metric tons through 2023. During this period, industry efforts focused on solving key technical challenges in seedling cultivation through specialized breeding methods, which supported larger-scale trial plantings. The high economic value of artichokes also encouraged diversification into processed forms such as preserved, frozen, and health tea products, adding new dimensions to the industry while the fresh market volume held steady.

In 2024, further market development was signaled by the expansion of retail presence, with multinational group Dole introducing artichokes in Sam's Club stores, broadening consumer access. At the same time, successful scaled cultivation in regions like Guanyang and Jingjiang promoted local agricultural restructuring and indicated potential for future supply growth.
