The Danish glass fibres market volume contracted from over 10,000 tonnes in 2018 to under 5,000 tonnes in 2020, aligning with a broader European trend of reduced production following a peak in 2017. A recovery to 5,842 tonnes occurred in 2021, coinciding with a peak in European glass fibre consumption which grew by 8.1% that year.

In 2022, demand from Denmark's wind energy sector surged as wind power met a record 53% of the country's electricity needs, sharply increasing the need for glass fibres in turbine blades. This drove import prices up by 41% and lifted import volumes to 11,211 tonnes. Subsequent years saw import volumes recede, and in 2024 new producer responsibility rules for packaging came into force, adding regulatory considerations for the market.

Throughout the period, the industry intensified its focus on sustainability and recycling, notably through projects like DecomBlades which aimed to recycle glass fibre from decommissioned wind turbine blades. These circular economy initiatives supported innovation but did not reverse the overall decline in trade activity after the 2022 spike.
