Earlier Report Observations

In 2018, the market for glass fibre non-woven products in Lithuania reached 25.7 thousand tonnes valued at 46.3 million USD, supported by the entry of new players offering non-standard items and growing use in construction and automotive industries due to high strength and corrosion resistance. By 2019, market volume fell to 23.8 thousand tonnes (44.1 million USD), despite the continued influence of state-owned companies and large manufacturers.

Starting in 2020, amendments to construction technical regulations enacted between 2017 and 2020 likely temporarily dampened demand for glass fibre products in the building sector. At the same time, increased focus on quality and EU certification encouraged Lithuanian producers to boost exports. Consequently, by 2021 the domestic market shrank to 15.5 thousand tonnes (31.0 million USD), even as new segments such as fibreglass cubes for leisure use emerged and construction demand remained steady.

In subsequent years, the market continued to be shaped by various factors: global supply chain disruptions and geopolitical tensions in 2023 caused shortages of glass containers and packaging, intensifying competition with Polish manufacturers. By 2024, companies invested in new production lines, while stricter quality requirements for construction products under new regulations came into force, and consumer interest shifted toward sustainable and durable materials.
