The gingerbread market in Slovenia expanded significantly between 2019 and 2023. Market volume in physical terms rose from 520 t in 2019 to a peak of 697 t in 2023, while market value more than doubled from USD 1.3 million to USD 2.5 million over the same period.

The growth in 2022 was supported by increased media consumption and digital promotion, which boosted consumer awareness and demand for gingerbread products. At the same time, rising food inflation began to push up retail prices, contributing to higher market value. In 2023, inflation remained a key driver, causing a sharp jump in market value to USD 2.5 million despite a more moderate volume increase.

In 2024, market volume contracted to 624 t, whereas value continued to climb, reaching USD 2.6 million, indicating persistent inflationary pressure on prices.

Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports increased by 48.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 14.1%. The minimum value was recorded in 2018 at 154 thousand US dollars. The largest decline occurred in 2018, with a drop of 9.0%, while the largest increase was in 2019, with a rise of 28.1%.
