From 2018 to 2020, the fresh and chilled garlic market in Lithuania expanded, with volume rising from 1 995 tons to 2 171 tons. This growth was partly driven by increased consumer demand for frozen vegetables and related products during 2020, as pandemic-related shifts boosted frozen food sales across Europe.

After peaking in 2020, market volume declined to 1 748 tons by 2022. The sharp drop in 2022 coincided with global disruptions from the war in Ukraine and soaring raw material costs, which raised food prices and dampened consumption of garlic and other agricultural goods.

The market recovered in 2023, reaching 1 945 tons, supported by the rapid expansion of online grocery shopping in Lithuania. E-commerce for fresh food doubled that year, making garlic more accessible and convenient for consumers despite ongoing price pressures from reduced global harvests.
