Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for fresh or chilled duck meat in Northern Europe declined from 42 856 t in 2018 to 35 100 t in 2020, as both domestic production and imports fell during this period.

A recovery began in 2021, with market size jumping to 44 349 t and further growing to 47 693 t in 2022. This expansion was supported by a surge in imports, which rose from 24 565 t to 28 682 t, as elevated raw material and energy costs made imported duck meat more competitive and offset declining local production.

Market growth slowed to a marginal 1% in 2023, reaching 48 247 t, reflecting stabilized feed and energy costs alongside weakened consumer purchasing power that tempered demand for premium cuts. By 2024, improved economic signals such as lower inflation and mortgage rates contributed to stronger meat consumption overall, and duck meat imports continued to climb, reaching 35 715 t.
