Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2023, the fresh grape market in Latin America and the Caribbean experienced notable fluctuations. After a relatively stable period in 2018-2019, the market contracted in 2020 but rebounded strongly in 2021, reaching 7.4 million tons in volume and USD 15.7 billion in value. This recovery coincided with the launch of the Alliance for Dual Training, aimed at improving agricultural workforce skills, and digitalization initiatives that could enhance production efficiency and access to finance.

In 2022, the market volume declined to 6.6 million tons and USD 13.9 billion, partly due to increased focus on climate risks and their impact on agricultural production, as highlighted in regional discussions on health and climate. Climate-related challenges likely reduced harvests, tightening domestic supply.

By 2023, despite a further slight dip in volume to 6.4 million tons, the market value rose to USD 16.8 billion. This increase was supported by the opening of JD.com's Latin America and Caribbean Pavilion in Beijing, which facilitated exports of Latin American grapes to international markets, boosting external demand and contributing to higher prices.
