This growth was supported by the government's economic reform and opening policy (NEM), which encouraged investments in agriculture, and by local promotion events such as the ODOP Lao carnival aimed at boosting domestic demand for agricultural products. Market volume grew more modestly to 378.0 thousand tons by 2020, as rising exports absorbed part of the increased production.

In 2021, production fell sharply to 254.8 thousand tons, and market volume dropped to 206.8 thousand tons. The market recovered from 2022 onward, with production reaching 294.3 thousand tons by 2023. This rebound was driven by rising industrial demand for cassava-derived products, particularly for ethanol production, which spurred output. Government policies facilitating the entry of new SMEs and supporting the modernization of processing facilities further contributed to the expansion.
