The Hungarian market for base metal fittings for buildings grew from 23 654 tonnes in 2018 to a peak of 27 840 tonnes in 2021, a 17% increase over the previous year. This expansion phase concluded in 2021, after which market volume began a sharp contraction.

From 2022, the market entered a pronounced downturn, falling to 15 072 tonnes that year and further to 11 668 tonnes by 2024. A key driver in 2023 was a substantial decline in building construction activity, with issued commercial permits down 16.1% and residential permits down 43.2%, which directly reduced domestic demand for fittings. During this period of contraction, the government announced major infrastructure investment plans in 2024 targeting transport and utility projects for 2025.

Hungary's production of fittings for buildings has grown for the second year in a row. In 2021, output reached 106.3 million US dollars, marking a 29.5% increase from the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, production rose by 23%, with an average annual growth rate of 7.1%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 80.1 million US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 7.3%.
