Earlier Report Observations

The introduction of new technical standards STN 33 2000-6:2018-07 and the enactment of Law No. 56/2018 along with Government Regulation No. 148/2016 in 2018 established stricter safety and certification requirements for low-voltage electrical installations. This regulatory shift supported a rise in domestic production of certified switches, which increased from 7.3 million US dollars in 2018 to 12.6 million in 2019. Concurrently, imports grew to 191.2 million, driving the total market volume up by 6.6% to 165.4 million US dollars in 2019.

Market volume contracted by 34% to 109.2 million US dollars in 2020, primarily due to a 27% drop in imports to 139.3 million, while production held steady at 12.9 million. Exports began a consistent upward trend during this period. The 2022 update to Slovak technical norms STN for repeated testing of electrical equipment reinforced quality control requirements, which coincided with a further adjustment in import levels to 138.5 million that year.

By 2024, new regulatory measures shaped market dynamics. Decisions by the Regulatory Office for Network Industries (ÚRSO) on network support services and heightened requirements for public electric vehicle charging infrastructure under the AFIR regulation created fresh demand for switches in new applications. This contributed to imports reaching 162.8 million US dollars in 2024, while exports continued their growth to 65.5 million.
