Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 8.1%, which translates to an annualized decline of 2.8%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 730.4 K t, marking the largest decline of 20.8% that year. In contrast, 2019 saw the largest increase, with production rising by 16.4%.

After two years of growth, Germany's cross-border shipments of edible brassicas declined. In 2020, exports amounted to 78.3 K t, falling by 14.5% compared to the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, exports increased by 3%, equivalent to an annualized rate of 1.0%. The peak was in 2019 at 91.6 K t, which also saw the largest increase of 12.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, the partner structure of exports in kind was fragmented. Sweden accounted for 27.6% of exports, the Netherlands for 11.6%, and Czechia for 10.1%, with these three countries together making up only 49.3% of total flows, and no single country held a dominant share.

Following two years of increase, edible brassicas exports from Germany declined. In 2020, exports stood at 49.7 M $ US, marking a drop of 25.2% year-over-year. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 66.5 M $ US, which also experienced the largest increase of 32.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands remained the leading sources in Germany's import structure in kind. Spain accounted for 33.9% of imports, Italy for 24.9%, and the Netherlands for 18.7%, with their combined share reaching 77.5% of total flows.

Germany's imported edible brassicas volumes increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, imports totalled 345.5 M $ US, equivalent to an increase of 19.7% year-over-year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports increased by 20.7%, equating to an annualized rate of 6.5%. The minimum value was recorded in 2018 at 273.7 M $ US, which also saw the largest decline of 4.3%.
