The market for dried shelled peas in Jamaica expanded from 977 tonnes in 2018 to a peak of 1 201 tonnes in 2021, representing a period of sustained growth. This increase was supported by a rise in domestic production, which grew by 16% over the same period, and supplemented by variable import volumes that reached their highest point in 2020.

Following the 2021 peak, the market entered a contraction phase, with total volume falling to 906 tonnes by 2023. This decline coincided with a reduction in domestic output, which dropped by 17% from the 2021 high, and a simultaneous decrease in import volumes after 2020.
