After reaching 24 483 t in 2018, the Algerian market for dried shelled peas contracted sharply over the next two years, falling to 16 632 t in 2020. A sustained recovery followed, with market volume returning to 24 645 t by 2023.

This fluctuation was driven by volatile domestic production, which fell from 12 125 t in 2019 to a low of 8 269 t in 2021 before recovering to 11 377 t in 2023. Imports, a major supply source, dropped from 13 011 t in 2018 to 5 607 t in 2020, then surged to 13 271 t in 2023, fueling the market rebound.

Exports remained negligible throughout the period. The strong upward trend in imports continued into 2024, with volumes reaching 19 987 t.

After two years of growth, Algeria's production of dried shelled peas declined. In 2020, the country produced 11 027 tonnes, marking a modest year-over-year decrease of 9.1%. Over the 2017-2020 period, production increased by 11.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of 3.6%.
